TOURNAMENT PLAY
From the get-go, JB and the NAJGA board of directors wanted to make tournament play a focus of the program, as it is with competition that a golfer can measure his or her growth and understanding of the game. Living and working in rural communities, the opportunities for tournament play was limited, but the NAJGA stepped up and created and, or collaborated with other organizations to present the opportunity to play tournament golf.
The NAJGA created the National Native American Junior Golf Championship which took place in New Mexico. The first tournament brought Native American Junior Golfer from over 50 tribes for a total of over 600 junior golfers from the age of 7 to 17. The NAJGA's hunch was correct - our Native youth wanted to participate in tournament with other Native youth.
